After leaving Schleswig, we headed north to Flensburg by way of Glücksburg.  Glücksburg is not really on the way to Flensburg, but it was on a "scenic drive" on our map outside on Flensburg, and we were on an adventure.

Glücksburg is known for its Wasserschloss (water palace) and its rose gardens.  Since we weren't 'schlossing' on Monday, we wandered around the grounds and watched the waterfowl.

Flensburg was officially awarded town rights in 1284, and is nicknamed "Rumstadt" (rum city), after the city's main import from the Caribbean in the 18th century. We spent very little time in Flensburg, finding ourselves hungry late on a holiday afternoon.  In Germany, almost everything is closed for holidays, which is great for wandering through the center of town, but not when dinner time is approaching.
