We spent Easter Monday again heading north
to explore more of our state of Schleswig-Holstein. First on our
itinerary was the town of Schleswig, whose history traces back to the
days of the Vikings. Schleswig-Holstein has at various times
belonged to Denmark and the German Reich. After WWI, the northern
section of the state was returned to Denmark, and the border was moved
south to its present location. Schleswig is also home to a
schloss (palace) and the Dom St. Petri. Just down the road,
Flensburg is the northernmost town in mainland Germany, lying on the
Danish border. |
